Ladies and Gentlemen:
My topic is Honesty.
As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon’s tooth. This is a true story.
65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.
He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 20xx, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome.
When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one’s error.
Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. I would like to say to all of my friends: Let’s be honest people of good moral character.
Thank you.

Good day, everyone. Today, I will share with you a remarkable modern Chinese story - the development of high - speed rail in China.
In the early 21st century, China started to focus on building a high - speed rail network. At that time, the technology was new, and there were many challenges. But the Chinese engineers and workers were determined. They spent years researching, experimenting, and innovating.
In 20__, Chinas first high - speed rail line, the Beijing - Tianjin Intercity Railway, was put into operation, with a top speed of 350 kilometers per hour. Since then, the high - speed rail network in China has expanded rapidly. Now, China has the worlds largest high - speed rail network, covering almost every corner of the country.
The high - speed rail has brought great convenience to peoples lives. It shortens the travel time between cities. For example, traveling from Beijing to Shanghai, which used to take more than 10 hours by regular train, now only takes about 4.5 hours by high - speed rail. It also promotes economic development, facilitating the flow of people, goods, and information.
This achievement is a result of the hard work of the Chinese people, the support of the government, and continuous technological innovation. It shows Chinas ability to make great progress in infrastructure construction. The high - speed rail has become a new business card for China, demonstrating our strength in modernization. Thank you!

good evening, ladies and gentlemen:
i’d like to start with a group of pictures.
"modern and advanced"? this society forgets, and ignores the other two thirds of human beings. it's far from the ideal! we call ideal as a utopian, a place where reality does not exist. a few people still look forward to the ideals. we make fun of them, considering they are naive. will we still be content to live in such a society, if misfortune drops to us? no! of cause not!
when we feel the warmth of the sun, these people, endure great sorrows and pains. can we imagine that? they are our brother and sisters!
facing them, will we still complain about our own misfortune?
facing them, will we still have the mood shouting for our own freedom? facing them, will we still want to have more and more unnecessary stuff?
they are unable to meet their needs, even the basic needs of survival! everyone, as a member of humanity, shouldn't feel ashamed? our luxury deprived their lives, our indifference violated our soul, and our barbarity destroyed human civilization!
what's the ideal society? it's a society no one worries about their living, a society no one is refused from education, a society everyone can pursue his/her own happiness! the ideal society is filled with love, joy and kindness. in that society, we can touch the other's hearts, we can share our dreams and most important, we can just be the true men!
let's break the ethnic divide, bridge the gap between rich and poor, hand in hand, to build a great wall, protecting us from evil; to construct a steady bridge, connecting reality to the ideal society! let's pursue for that, that's the only way to the bright future! they are watching us! thank you!
smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any single disease, says the world health organisation.
according to their figures, it is responsible for approximately five million deaths worldwide every year.
tobacco smoking is a known or probable cause of approximately 25 diseases, and even the who says that its impact on world health is not fully assessed.
heart attack and stroke
uk studies show that smokers in their 30s and 40s are five times more likely to have a heart attack than non-smokers.
tobacco contributes to the hardening of the arteries, which can then become blocked and starve the heart of bloodflow, causing the attack.
often, smokers who develop this will require complex and risky heart bypass surgery.
if you smoke for a lifetime, there is a 50% chance that your eventual death will be smoking-related - half of all these deaths will be in middle age.
smoking also increases the risk of having a stroke.
lung problems
another primary health risk associated with smoking are lung cancer, which kills more than 20,000 people in the uk every year.
us studies have shown that men who smoke increase their chances of dying from the disease by more than 22 times.
women who smoke increase this risk by nearly 12 times.
lung cancer is a difficult cancer to treat - long term survival rates are poor.
smoking also increases the risk of oral, uterine, liver, kidney, bladder, stomach, and cervical cancers, and leukaemia.
another health problem associated with tobacco is emphysema, which, when combined with chronic bronchitis, produces chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
he lung damage which causes emphysema is irreversible, and makes it extremely difficult to breathe.
harm to children
smoking in pregnancy greatly increases the risk of miscarriage, is associated with lower birthweight babies, and inhibited child development.
smoking by parents following the birth is linked to sudden infant death syndrome, or cot death, and higher rates of infant respiratory illness, such as bronchitis, colds, and pneumonia.
nicotine, an ingredient of tobacco, is listed as an addictive substance by the us authorities.
although the health risks of smoking are culmulative, giving up can yield health benefits regardless of the age of the patient, or the length of time they have been smoking.
future impact
by 2020, the who expects the worldwide death toll to reach 10 million, causing 17.7% of all deaths in developed countries.
there are believed to be 1.1 billion smokers in the world, 800 million of them in developing countries.

No thought exactly, exactly when to start, has set foot on the road of youth, young no longer time, started the different thoughts and mood. More moment of time, water out eventually must stop, forever all, no longer believe that anything is immortal.
For a long time, we are always in the wandering and hesitation, the fork in the road of life, can not find the way forward, have no one to give you direction, pain, sorrow, to follow. We sighed with emotion, always feel that, because of youth, life becomes muddy; Because of the youth, we become decadent disconsolate. Because of the youth, we couldn't see the future.
However, should not is the youth.
Youth is the pronoun of surging blood, is permeated with enthusiasm, is hard work, try is endless. Youth is amenable to hone but can't afford to spend, withstand development but can't afford to waste. All day long malaise, the eyes see is decadent, what's the point? More complaints, discontent, and can change what? Just can make oneself feel living very tired very heavy, and then again the complaints, discontent, so, a vicious cycle.
In fact, we are young, what is impossible! Had so many dreams, is this in this great good youth, to strive, to strive, to an opportunity to achieve all you want. As long as bravely forward, efforts to pay, even if to finally failed to gain what you want, in the process of experience have you enough to treasure memories.
Youth, give you, my life only once, prime not heavy, once a day morning, when encouraged in time, time and tide wait for no man. Is most worthy of being highly treasure the value of each and every day, grasp today, grasp tomorrow, welcome the first ray of sunshine every day. Youth time is priceless, every minute counts.
Most of the time will feel tired, helpless, not a lot of passion. Whether because our heart is no longer young, everything is see through? No, dominate the world is you, give up the world is still you. Haze weather mood diary or beautiful, are you in writing.
Perhaps, in this materialistic, false prosperity of society, do you want to just flatly light life, "otherwise, serene life", do not want to pursue in the repeated, do an ordinary person. We can't go too one-sided evaluation says this is right or wrong, but ordinary doesn't mean mediocrity. We can be ordinary, but can not mediocrity.
Once, many years later, when to do, say, always feel that is so childish. Young ignorance, is the young dream, the wasted years filled with youthful dribs and drabs. May be sad, may be sad. Want to say is, do not experience wind and rain, how see rainbow; Want to say is, don't give up, want to stay more has also is the scenery along the way. Want to say is, no matter what, all is the past, no need to go to with grief.
One day we will enter the adult, in the way of youth away. But please don't be sad, because leave is for better memories. Someone once said "life is like a one-way ticket to no return, no rehearsals, every game is live. Grasp every performance is the best to cherish life." When we looking back again, can say proudly: when we were young, we had struggled, and burned. Without regret to face yourself, face the future, never have regret!
In the matter of courage we all have our limits. There never was a hero who did not have his bounds. I suppose it may be said of Nelson and all the others whose courage has been advertised that there came times in their lives when their bravery knew it had come to its limit.
I have found mine a good many times. Sometimes this was expected--often it was unexpected. I know a man who is not afraid to sleep with a rattle-snake, but you could not get him to sleep with a safety-razor.
I never had the courage to talk across a long, narrow room. I should be at the end of the room facing all the audience. If I attempt to talk across a room I find myself turning this way and that, and thus at alternate periods I have part of the audience behind me. You ought never to have any part of the audience behind you; you never can tell what they are going to do.
I'll sit down.

some say mediocre students are similar, not mediocre students each have their own glory. although i don't think my life is brilliant, and failure of comparison but i'm glad i gainmuch more than i lost. every one of us dreams of the university halls, in order to come to the palace we experience hardships. now that we have crossed the threshold, so we have a lot of personality in the halls of this dream. college is not a fantasy, not a dream, and certainly not delusional, but our great ideal. as long as we are fighting for. some day we will achieve everything! you will hear maple stream boat, you will see kim laughs, and you'll smell the fruit fragrance, because you have been in the harvest season!

Friendship
友谊
Every one of us, rich or poor, should at least have one or two good friends. My friends will listen to me when I want to speak, will wipe my eyes when I cry, will take care of me when I am sick, and my friends will go together with me side by side through this journey of life.
Friendship is a kind of treasure in our lives. It is actually like a bottle of wine, the longer it is kept, the sweeter it will be. It is also like a cup of tea. When we are thirsty, it will be our best choice, but when we have enough time to enjoy ourselves, it is also the most fragrant drink.
All of us have to spare some time for personal lives. We have to find the chance to express our emotion and love. When staying with our friends, we can release ourselves completely. We can do whatever we want, we can laugh together, talk together, and even cry to-gether. I should say that being together with our best friends is the most wonderful moment of our lives.
As we know, we would feel lonely if we didn't even have a friend. But it doesn't mean we could depend on our friends all the time. There is a famous motto saying that “A friend is like a quilt with cotton wadding, but the real thing that keeps you warm is your own temperature.” It is really true. We have to work hard together with our friends, encourage each other and help each other. When we receive love and friendship, we should repay as much as we can.
Finally, let's pray together now that one day, all of us could find the person we want to find, and could enjoy a real beautiful friendship in our lives. Let's pray the flower of friendship be-tween our friends and us would always bloom brightly in our hearts
who and groups famously follow the opinions of the most dominant or charismatic person in the room, even though there's zero correlation between being the best talker and having the best ideas -- i mean zero. so ... (laughter) you might be following the person with the best ideas, but you might not. and do you really want to leave it up to chance? much better for everybody to go off by themselves, generate their own ideas freed from the distortions of group dynamics, and then come together as a team to talk them through in a well-managed environment and take it from there.
now if all this is true, then why are we getting it so wrong? why are we setting up our schools this way and our workplaces? and why are we making these introverts feel so guilty about wanting to just go off by themselves some of the time? one answer lies deep in our cultural history. western societies, and in particular the u.s., have always favored the man of action over the man of contemplation and “man“ of contemplation. but in america's early days, we lived in what historians call a culture of character, where we still, at that point, valued people for their inner selves and their moral rectitude. and if you look at the self-help books from this era, they all had titles with things like “character, the grandest thing in the world.“ and they featured role models like abraham lincoln who was praised for being modest and unassuming. ralph waldo emerson called him “a man who does not offend by superiority.“
but then we hit the 20th century and we entered a new culture that historians call the culture of personality. what happened is we had evolved an agricultural economy to a world of big business. and so suddenly people are moving from small towns to the cities. and instead of working alongside people they've known all their lives, now they are having to prove themselves in a crowd of strangers. so, quite understandably, qualities like magnetism and charisma suddenly come to seem really important. and sure enough, the self-help books change to meet these new needs and they start to have names like “how to win friends and influence people.“ and they feature as their role models really great salesmen. so that's the world we're living in today. that's our cultural inheritance.
now none of this is to say that social skills are unimportant, and i'm also not calling for the abolishing of teamwork at all. the same religions who send their sages off to lonely mountain tops also teach us love and trust. and the problems that we are facing today in fields like science and in economics are so vast and so complex that we are going to need armies of people coming together to solve them working together. but i am saying that the more freedom that we give introverts to be themselves, the more likely that they are to come up with their own unique solutions to these problems.
so now i'd like to share with you what's in my suitcase today. guess what? books. i have a suitcase full of books. here's margaret atwood, “cat's eye.“ here's a novel by milan kundera. and here's “the guide for the perplexed“ by maimonides. but these are not exactly my books. i brought these books with me because they were written by my grandfather's favorite authors.
my grandfather was a rabbi and he was a widower who lived alone in a small apartment in brooklyn that was my favorite place in the world when i was growing up, partly because it was filled with his very gentle, very courtly presence and partly because it was filled with books. i mean literally every table, every chair in this apartment had yielded its original function to now serve as a surface for swaying stacks of books. just like the rest of my family, my grandfather's favorite thing to do in the whole world was to read.
but he also loved his congregation, and you could feel this love in the sermons that he gave every week for the 62 years that he was a rabbi. he would takes the fruits of each week's reading and he would weave these intricate tapestries of ancient and humanist thought. and people would come from all over to hear him speak.
Sino-Japan problem is always a sensitive topic, a fuse which can trigger a serial of explosion. Some so-called patriots argue that buying domestic products is patriotism and proclaim that in particular all the Chinese should reject goods marked “made in Japan”.
Those who are more extreme may smash or plunder a shop which sells Japan products or burn any Japanese car in the street no matter who owns it.
Then, how about launch a war against Japan so that we can destroy that malicious disgusting nation which had invaded our mother land then unscrupulous deny the history written in black and white?
What if a person, on one hand is a patriot from tip to toe and willing to sacrifice his life to his country if Japan dare to wage a war against China(if possible) while one the other hand he is a Japanese culture vulture?
What if the shop the mob smashed is owned by a hard working Chinese businessman? Had they committed a crime? Are the masses just venting their discontentment which accumulates day by day because of the appalling unfairness in the reality?
Is it true we just take Japan or international trade as an outlet?
Patriotism is not nationalistic fever, not intense ethnic emotion. We need to calm down and differentiate ethnical frenzy and moderate sober patriotism.
In addition, there is always danger to ignore the real problematic issue such as political corruption, academic plagiarism, educational unfairness, and social classes polarizing which are screaming for our attention and should be our priority.
What has been called for in the loudest voice is usually the most lacking one. Ramble roars in the movie “First Blood”-I have done everything for my country, what has my country done for me?! Nowadays, we badly need a rewritten version of Kennedy’s famous saying “ask not only what you can do for your country but also what your country can do for you.”
Good afternoon. Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today I will say something about my family love.
I remember when I was younger. My family lived a simple life. We weren'twealthy by any stretch of the imagination, but we were content with what wehad.
Our first vehicle was an old broken-down bicycle. It provided us withtransportation on many enjoyable weekends and holidays. Mom sat on the backwhile Dad pedaled. I, a mere toddler at the time, rode on the bar in front ofhim. It didn't matter where we were going as long as we were going theretogether.
Not long after that, my family moved to Hainan. Relying on my parents, courage and persistence, they started their own business. As a result, we weresoon able to replace the bike with a new car. So we could travel further on ourexcursions. Our family's happy laughter filled the car as we traveled to manydistant locations in China. Many years have gone by since those happy days, butwe're still as close as ever.
Recently, the airplane has become our mode of transportation as we venturebeyond the confines of China to see the world. We were able to experiencefirsthand the uniqueness of Amsterdam, the romance of Paris, and the elegance ofVienna. But yet, such fantastic sites were nothing compared to the love of ourfamily.
Time goes by swiftly, and everything is changing all the time.Yet the loveexisting in my family always remains. It is the source of our happiness; It,sthe source of all of our ideals: confidence, courage, and faith. But it goes somuch deeper than that; it warms our very hearts. So I will acclaim for theeternal and awesome love in my family and let it go on forever!
Thank you very much!

but here's the thing about my grandfather. underneath this ceremonial role, he was really modest and really introverted -- so much so that when he delivered these sermons, he had trouble making eye contact with the very same congregation that he had been speaking to for 62 years. and even away from the podium, when you called him to say hello, he would often end the conversation prematurely for fear that he was taking up too much of your time. but when he died at the age of 94, the police had to close down the streets of his neighborhood to accommodate the crowd of people who came out to mourn him. and so these days i try to learn from my grandfather's example in my own way.
so i just published a book about introversion, and it took me about seven years to write. and for me, that seven years was like total bliss, because i was reading, i was writing, i was thinking, i was researching. it was my version of my grandfather's hours of the day alone in his library. but now all of a sudden my job is very different, and my job is to be out here talking about it, talking about introversion. (laughter) and that's a lot harder for me, because as honored as i am to be here with all of you right now, this is not my natural milieu.
so i prepared for moments like these as best i could. i spent the last year practicing public speaking every chance i could get. and i call this my “year of speaking dangerously.“ (laughter) and that actually helped a lot. but i'll tell you, what helps even more is my sense, my belief, my hope that when it comes to our attitudes to introversion and to quiet and to solitude, we truly are poised on the brink on dramatic change. i mean, we are. and so i am going to leave you now with three calls for action for those who share this vision.

good evening ,ladies and gentlemen:
thank you very much for choosing to come in such a cold night.today my topic is about choice and process.a research shows that a man has to make 73 choices one day.with so many choices one day, people easily get so confused and afraid of making wrong choice that they hesitate and finally miss the true part of life. in my opinion, the following part is of much more importance than the choice. there is no absolute right or wrong choice but wonderful or boring life, which the process makes the difference.
life is a box of chocolate, you never know what you will get. forrest gump made no decision by and for himself but he accomplished great success with his strong will in the process. the process is not the road itself but the attitudes and feelings ,the caution, courage and persistance we have as we encounter new experience and unexpected obstacles. take myself as an example, i changed my major when i became a postgraduate. after the choice, days have been harsh for me.i cannot understand the new lessons at all. for they are closely related to mathmatics which i learned nothing about before. however wuth the belief that this is the great chance for me to experience new ideas and challenge myself,i persisted. i asked for help from every channel and reorgonized my life. gradually i could understand some parts and even found maths interesting.moreover, i learned to act instead of complaining. in retrospect, the choice left no trace in my mind but the happiness and bitterness of the past four months becomes an unforgetable experience in my life.
no matter what the choice is, enjoy the process. in the process, your potential will be inspired and new discoveries, improvement and progress will come to you. these are the most beautiful sceneries and only on the way can you see it.these make your life colorful.
there is no need and i donnot want to judge whether it right or wrong for me to be here, but i congratulate to myself for i gain and enjoy this fantastic experience. so my dear friends, never worry about your choice and enjoy the process. i am sure you will get something new and intersting tonight after you chose to come here. thank you!
